So, you know how Anet preaches to us about keeping our accounts safe?

Funny thing.

If NASA had a Guild Wars account they would have been hacked.

I think Anet may have to do something else when freakin' NASA gets infected by a virus that steals gaming passwords.

That is so freakin' cool in some odd way. A computer virus actually leaving the earth to infect a space station....

Inde, this was actually supposed to discuss account security and the fact that NASA (which I'm assuming doesn't play games) can get infect by a virus that steals passwords. That is why I put it in Riverside.

Lucky they can't steal anything from my no-money-at-all account

But this isn't really NASA. Its a bunch of lonely astronauts sitting in a space station constructed by several different space agencies, with access to 71 different laptops(that I assume is networked in some way) and a likely connection to the internet.

Duh, one of the astronauts was downloading some leet stat changer.... but what's interesting is that if a worm that's classified as a minimal security risk can get on to their lap tops what else can?

Why do people assume they have anything more than the rest of us protecting their computers?
I might mention that this installation in orbit is named The International Space station for a reason, though it is lead by the US, there are 16 nations involved with the program. It is not run by NASA.
The civilian scientists conducting research in the station come from all these countries. They have no super government firewalls protecting their laptops and are I suspect as vulnerable as the rest of us when they log on to the Internet.
I would not have been surprised to learn that one of these geeks surfed porn to get his gear infected!

This is about as related to Arenanet's account security as drive-by shootings are to WWII.

The California-based retail anti-virus software manufacturer Symantec describes it as a Windows-based worm which spreads by copying itself onto removable media. It is capable of stealing passwords for online games and is classified as a very low risk, according to Symantec's Web site.
It's end of game (pun intended) for one NASA guy out there, who probably played his favorite MMO on an insecure PC at home with his USB plugged in and brought it to work...
